Getting started
You bought the Doctor. Now what? Five steps to install, a four-step recipe to fix your mods, and a plain-English guide to every button so you know what you're clicking.
Everything you need before the app is open. About five minutes.

Double-click TruckModDoctor.exe. Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" warning. That's normal for a new indie app — see the box below for what to do.
On first launch the app walks you through four pages: pick your game (ETS2 or ATS), confirm your game folder, tick your DLCs, and you're done.
Open the licence-key email from Gumroad, copy the key, and paste it into the app when prompted. The Doctor checks the key with our server — takes a second or two.
Main window opens. You'll see four numbered cards across the middle — that's your fix-mods recipe. Carry on to Part 2.
When you double-click TruckModDoctor.exe, Windows may pop up a blue dialog: "Windows protected your PC. Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognised app from starting."
This is not a virus warning. It happens because we're a small team and haven't yet paid for a Microsoft code-signing certificate — every new indie app trips this until it does. We're sorting it for v1.1.
To run the app: click "More info" in the dialog → click "Run anyway". Windows remembers your choice — you'll only see this once.
If you'd rather double-check the file first, you can drop it on virustotal.com — it scans the file against 70+ antivirus engines.
Four buttons, top to bottom, across the main window. Click them in order. Total time: about five minutes.
.scs file in your mod folder and your Steam Workshop subscriptions. It builds a conflict map showing which mods touch the same game files. Free — no credits used.
Launch your game, load a save, and the new order takes effect.
Grouped so you can see at a glance which buttons cost credits and which are free. Knowing the difference will save you both time and credits.
game.log.txt from the last time the game ran. Lists every error and pins it to the mod that caused it. Best first stop when the game crashes — it often tells you exactly which mod to remove without spending a single credit.
.zip files in your mod folder (the game can't read them) and duplicate mod versions (e.g. v1.4 sitting alongside v1.5 of the same mod). Shows you each problem and lets you fix or delete with a click. Run after every download spree.
Most users spend 1–5 credits a month: one Load Order after a big mod refresh, plus the occasional question. The monthly plan gives you plenty of headroom for normal use.
Four scenarios cover almost everything:
The Doctor never touches your .scs files. The only thing it ever writes is your profile's active mod list — and that's always backed up first.
The download link is in your Gumroad confirmation email. Lost it? Log in to Gumroad with the email you used to buy — your purchase (and the download) will be in your Library.
Make sure you've copied the whole key including dashes, with no leading or trailing space. If it still won't activate, email support@truckmoddoctor.com and we'll check it from our end.
After Scan finishes, the status bar shows the total count and the workflow card shows the breakdown (local mods + Steam Workshop). If a number looks low, check the Cleanup button — unextracted zips and duplicate versions are common reasons for "missing" mods.
After any meaningful change to your mod set — new mods, removed mods, big mod updates. For small additions (one or two mods), you can often place them manually for free using the active mod list. We've seen users go months between Load Order runs once their setup is stable.
Click 📋 Game Log first — it usually pins the issue to a specific mod. If the log is empty or the suggestion doesn't help, ask the Doctor in the chat panel, or open a support ticket on Discord with a Save Report attached. There are some crashes (corrupt save files, broken DLC installs) that aren't a mod-order problem.
One PC at a time. To move your licence to a new machine, email support@truckmoddoctor.com with your key — we'll release it from the old PC so you can activate on the new one. Usually sorted within a few hours.
